2023-2024 Funded Projects

Reidsville Area Foundation awarded grants to five organizations in our June grant cycle. Funding priority grants comprise most of the Foundation's giving and must align with our focus areas of education, health and wellness or community development. Through a combination of programmatic, capacity strengthening and general operating funds, we support potentially transformative initiatives and organizations that build bridges and create pathways to success for all residents. Applications for the August cycle are due Thursday, August 1, 2024 and Tuesday, October 1, 2024 for the October cycle.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

CAROLINA COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS

CCAC currently has 65 college advisers deployed across the state, with four advisers serving students at the five Rockingham County high schools. This program is vital for raising the college enrollment percentage of students in the short term and the credential attainment rate of students long-term.

The Carolina College Advising Corps uses a
near-peer mentoring model - the recent college graduates placed in high schools are at a similar life stage to the high school seniors they are working with. When meeting with students, advisers use a personalized approach that allows students and parents to express their needs. They meet students and families where they are, while having conversations about college access and career pathways.

Rockingham County Education Foundation

Student Opportunity, Advancement, and Resiliency (SOAR) Fund

Student SOAR Fund provides direct financial support to students in need to help overcome social and academic barriers and build the relationships between school personnel and students. The Fund invites requests from a broad spectrum of school personnel including principals, teachers, teaching assistants, bus drivers, nurses, social workers, counselors, psychologists, and school resource officers. Each of these stakeholders has a unique vantage point, ensuring funded interventions are holistic, responsive, and tailored to real-time needs.

United Way of Rockingham County

eden summer institute

The United Way of Rockingham County serves as the fiscal agent for the Eden Summer Institute. The Institute, July 9th – 19th, is ten days of diverse art workshops with six international artists and four young artists from Rockingham County who will meet, co-create, and share during workshops, screenings, live music events, and performances. It is open to the public at no cost. The theme for the inaugural year is "New technologies: virtuality, bodies and narratives." Sylvain Couzinet-Jacques will lead the Summer Institute, with artforms to include Photogrammetry, 3D Development, Video Game Techniques, Sound Design, Storytelling, Body Movement and Dance Performance with an additional component of a Mentorship Program for Local Young Artists.

Go Global NC

rockingham county go global teaching fellowship

One Rockingham County public school teacher per year will participate in the Go Global Teaching Fellowship program. The Fellowship is an 18-month-long leadership program that includes intense study and spending time in another country. Fellows work in K-12 education in North Carolina public or charter schools and represent all subject areas. The program works with teachers because of the ripple effect of their impact: Classrooms, schools, parents, and communities are all enriched when a local teacher becomes a Global Teacher Fellow. Since 1995, Go Global has taken more than 1,000 North Carolina educators to study abroad in 22 countries.

Rockingham Public Library

BFF: Books for free

The summer book giveaway program aims to provide free, diverse literature to under-resourced communities. They plan to host upwards of 60 giveaway events, ensuring accessibility through partnerships and mobile services. The goal is to promote literacy, foster community engagement, and offer culturally relevant books.

Rockingham County Public Library (RCPL) Bookmobile & Outreach Services division focuses on serving as many of Rockingham County’s 90,000 residents as possible through non-traditional methods such as rural bookmobile stops, home deliveries, and focus on low-income schools and neighborhoods.
